Los herederos de Clodoveo (conocidos como merovingios en honor a su bisabuelo Meroveo), sol\u00edan repartir sus dominios entre sus descendientes, lo que hizo casi imposible que un solo monarca gobernara a los francos en esa era. Durante el siglo IV (tribus germ\u00e1nicas \u2014especialmente los francos\u2014 cruzaron la frontera del Rin), asent\u00e1ndose en territorios que hoy corresponden a B\u00e9lgica, el oeste de los Pa\u00edses Bajos y el este de Alemania.
